Leisure – Sept 2009
Architectural Signage in a Leisure Facility
By their very nature Swimming Pools and Leisure Centres are busy places with many activities and frequented by young and old alike. Safety and legibility of signs for all users is essential, visually impaired and non English/ Irish speakers are a key consideration.
In this environment we recommend a sign solution based on the principle of providing only the exact information needed at key wayfinding points this helps ease of movement. This "less is more" approach reduces the number of signs to a minimum. In addition, to make the centre as simple as possible to navigate, the graphic solution is the use of pictograms wherever possible.
It is important when it comes to external signage that the product/products selected give clear directions and truly portray an inviting attractive welcoming image.
