New hygiene and infection prevention inspection reports published by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) have found that poor hand-washing practice in many Irish hospitals is potentially putting patients at risk of acquiring a Healthcare Associated Infection.

It is a unique challenge to present cleaning material and hand cleaning instructions in an attractive user-friendly way and so encourage visitor compliance.  It is also important that the unit is maintenance free and can be cleaned with just a soft dry cloth.  Equally important is the area surrounding the unit that it is kept free from ‘spills’

We have developed a wall and monolith unit which are fit for purpose and are being used very successfully in many hospitals.

March 2013 Deadline

Time is Marching On …next important date regarding signage made under the Official Languages Act. 

Official Languages Act  requires that all new signs placed on any site on or after 1 March 2009 must be in Irish only or bilingual.  The Act goes on to give directives as to when existing signage needs to be corrected or replaced, see www.coimisineir.ie

The next important date: 

 For signs in English Only placed on any site before March 2009 the deadline to comply with the act is 1 March 2013

 A Case Study –

In 1997 in consultation with Coady Partnership, Architects, and the client we surveyed this project and provided a Wayfinding Survey Report.   We proposed and implemented the then new award winning MG Pacific Sign  System, a curved modular signage system manufactured to ISO 9001 standards.  In 2004 with the addition of the Nursing Block we continued the MG Pacific System into this area.  MG Compass External Signage system integrates in style and  continues to serve the college well.  Over the year's a new complementary product, MG Kurvos doorplate & timetable holders were added, the perfect solution meeting the colleges need for expansion and flexibility.This year, 15 years later, a review took place to bring all the signage up to date, not just from a wayfinding perspective but to comply with the Irish Language legislation and accessibility, to incorporate new and rededicated accomodation and to refresh the 'look' of existing signage.

 From the visuals below, the results speak for themselves, this latest project was successfully carried out with the minimum of disruption to the college and all the signage throughout the college looks as good as new!

University of Dublin, Trinity College – working with the Director of Buildings Office a similar project has been undertaken to review and up-date all external signage in the Campus inline with TCD Signage and Wayfinding Policy to ensure all signs meet with the guidelines set out by their Disability Services Office and the Official Languages Act.
